Imran’s love of soccer is undeniable. On a beautiful Saturday in June, over 400 people joined together to celebrate that love, at the inaugural Imran Jaffer Memorial Soccer Tournament held at Bayview Glen School in North York. As they arrived at the tournament, they were welcomed by Imran’s smiling face, pictured with Pep Gaurdiola former footballer and current manager of club Bayern Munich, on the cover of 360 Soccer Magazine.
16 teams with 160 players competed for the trophy, playing 31 games over the course of one epic day. Trophy winners were Gunners (first place), Goal Diggers (second place), Sacky Hacks (third place), and Liverpool Eagles (fourth place)and Stang Gang (fifth place). Team Gunners received the large IJF floating trophy, which will be awarded to the first place team annually at the tournament.
There was much more than just soccer to be played that day – there were hundreds of baked goods (donated by friends of the Foundation), a wonderful BBQ lunch, and several games and prizes. As well, everyone was treated to the musical delights of DJ Anton Intrinity, and the event was hosted by media personality Hussein Madhavji.
The Foundation would like to extend a special thank you to Bayview Glen School for their generosity in providing the venue for this event, including use of their brand new pitch, as well as for advertising the event and facilitating other donations. This tournament could not have been made possible without their contribution.
Special appreciation to Rahim Jaffer for orchestrating the 16 captains and teams as well as the games program and scheduling. Our thanks also go to all the family and friends who brought baked goods and donations for prizes.
The tournament was an immense success, whereby the youth had fun, celebrated Imran’s love for soccer and supported fund raising for a good cause. These funds will go a long way to support the Foundation’s important causes, including providing scholarships and other awards
We would like to thank all the volunteers, and extend gratitude to our sponsors:
We hope you will join us next year, at this annual event! Stay tuned for dates and watch the IJF website.
