Who was Imran Jaffer...

Imran Jaffer was known for his unwavering love for his family and friends, strong leadership, and his uncanny ability to bring a positive perspective to every person in any situation. He lit every room he entered with his beautiful smile and infectious laughter and radiated energy that brought happiness all around. His zest for life endeared him to all who were fortunate enough to have met him.

As a respected leader, loyal friend and beloved classmate, Imran touched many lives during his time at Bayview Glen and Western University. Imran chose Western for its highly regarded Business and Urban Development programs.  He was an incredibly well-rounded student, advancing his academic studies while balancing his volunteer work with MEDLIFE in London and the Aga Khan Volunteer Corps in Toronto as well as his participation in Western’s intramural soccer teams and his active participation in the Cancer Awareness Society for fundraising.

Imran passed away suddenly and tragically on Sunday, August 10th, 2014 in Guelph, Ontario at the age of 19.

Some words about Imran...

“Imran will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his professors and fellow classmates in the Geography program in our Faculty of Social Science and by his many other friends at Western. In memory of Imran, a digital bookplate has been created in his name at Western Libraries. As a tribute to Imran’s major in geography, a book in that area of study has been chosen. This digital bookplate is permanently linked to a book title in Western Libraries online catalogue”.
Amit Chakma
President and Vice Chancellor
Western University
“Imran was highly regarded by the faculty and staff in the department and an excellent student. It is very clear that your family had many special times together, and his spirit lives on in your hearts as well as those he touched at Western, his teammates, roommates, relatives , friends and countless others he encountered. We are honoured to sign the Liverpool FC jersey, which provides evidence that neither he nor his spirit ever did nor ever will walk alone.”
Dan Shrubhole
Professor and Chair,
Department of Geography
Western University
“Imran was an individual who knew how to enjoy life and how to make life more enjoyable. No matter how boring, daunting, grave a situation was, he was able to make everyone laugh. He touched so many lives and made them much brighter; and that includes my life as well. I learned so much from him as a teacher and as a human being. He was one of my biggest advocates and protectors. He was loyal, fair and empathetic human being. I have missed him since he graduated. I know that he was happy; he was very happy. He was happy with his life and all that he accomplished. Stories and memories filled with so much laughter and happiness. Those are the only ones of Imran that I will hold in my  heart all my life.”
Adriana Dybala
Bayview Glen teacher and mentor to Imran
“Imran contributed immensely to the lives of all here at Bayview Glen. The sight of his name evokes many fond memories of his energetic, determined and proficient displays of skill on the soccer pitch and the broad smile and fun-loving twinkle in his eyes. His love of the game was always evident and his love for life was a tremendous gift to those of us who had the opportunity to share part of it with him.”
Michael Whelan
Soccer Coach, Bayview Glen
“Imran touched the lives of so many people, from the young years at Bayview Glen, to the more recent years at Western, he truly left an impact on so many of us. He showed us how to find the silver lining, and he showed us to how far kindness and caring can go. Imran’s presence always created this unique, warm feeling of comfort, and this comfort will live on through his spirit. Imran will never be forgotten and his beautiful heart will be with us forever. He was a blessing to each and every one of our worlds.”
Joanna Saul
Friend and classmate since Junior school

“ Imran is our jewel, our diamond.  Imran was very humane, distinctly considerate, and amazingly empathetic. As a diamond, he could almost flawlessly understand people’s feelings, behaviours, and actions. He could address people’s needs in a very superhuman way and his ability to cooperate and work together was impressive. Friends always trusted him because he was honest and faithful;   everyone wished he was on their team. Imran is known for always being positive and seeing the bright side of things. His thoughts, words and actions were inspiring, refreshing and encouraging and will continue to linger on… We are fortunate to be part of your life. You are always in our hearts, thoughts and prayers. We love you forever”.
