Over the winter break, Aliya Lucatch and Niki Javdan, two of Imran’s close friends, invited all of Imran’s friends to get together for a holiday potluck. Around 65 people attended, mostly close friends of Imran and some of their parents as well. Everyone brought all different types of dishes and provided plenty of food for all the guests.
The main purpose of the potluck was to gather everyone to remember and honour Imran, and to get the word out about The Imran Jaffer Foundation. Everyone was informed about the mission and goals of the foundation and what we could all do to help.
Some of the guests shared their ideas they had about doing their part for the foundation. Aly Noordin, one of Imran’s close friends, presented his idea about making memory bracelets for Imran. This would allow him to fundraise for the foundation, while providing a daily reminder of Imran to everyone who purchased a bracelet. Another one of Imran’s good friends, Thilan Amugoda, shared his idea of organizing a training session for the youth at his university in Vermont, Middlebury College, to be taught and informed on emergency preparedness.
Guests also had a chance to look through the book of memories that included letters written by many of Imran’s close friends, and also had the opportunity to sign a picture of Imran, which has been framed and gifted to Imran’s family. The event was a huge success and we are now planning on making it an annual event in honour of Imran every holiday season!
